Why Is Tokyo Becoming Home

For a long time, Tokyo has been one of the cities I wanted to experience firsthand. The combination of modern city life, culture, food, transportation, technology, and everyday routines makes it a fascinating place to explore. My dream came alive in 2018 when I set foot for the first time here.

For many people, Tokyo is a destination they visit for a week or two before returning home. My relationship with the city has been different.

My connection with Japan and Tokyo becoming home

Over the past months, I have spent a significant amount of time in Japan and have had the opportunity to experience parts of daily life beyond the typical tourist perspective. The more time I spend here, the more I appreciate the small details that make Tokyo unique and Tokyo becoming home.

What started as an interest in Japan gradually became something more meaningful. I am now preparing to build my life here and make Tokyo my home. Actually with a great help from my better half.

That’s one of the reasons I created Tokyo Drifted.

This blog is not intended to be a guide written by an expert. Instead, it is a personal record of the transition from visitor to resident. Along the way, I’ll share experiences, photographs, discoveries, challenges, and observations about everyday life in Tokyo becoming home.

What I will share from my daily live in Japan

Some posts will focus on places I explore. Others will document practical aspects of living in Japan, cultural differences, and the lessons I learn as I settle into a new chapter of life. Some of the articles will be experiences from a while back, some will be recent as I tried to keep you, my read up to date with what is happening here and what is worth visiting and savoring.

Tokyo Drifted is a way for me to capture this journey and share it with anyone interested in following along and maybe Tokyo becoming home for them as well.

The journey is already underway, and I’m excited to see where it leads.

What I am looking forward to

I want to explore this magnificent city of Tokyo, which is becoming my home and the country where it is located – whenever I can with my wife and when she is busy by myself in the role of a lone traveler and also a resident.

The people in Japan are amazingly hospitable and masters of their craft. Whether is it a coffee, ramen or a Japanese sweet, the craftsmanship, the tradition and the perfection resounds in every pore of the creation of the Japanese hand.

Culture and history of Japan

In the blog I plan to share cultural treasures of the Japanese people whose history is as long as it is rich. Finding out about handmade precious items that bring centuries of secrets handled from one generation to the other are something that needs to be shared in order to be preserved.

The plan is to intertwine my European cultural heritage with the rich Japanese heritage that is resounding in Tokyo becoming home and all little corners of Japan. The emersion in the blog should bring some valuable information that I hope will be here to stay, and you will cherish along with me on the journey around Japan.

Expanding the Journey outside of Japan

As someone who enjoys traveling all around the work, I cannot promise I will not share an article or two about some other precious place around the word when my wife and I are on our holidays outside of Tokyo. But as the title of the blog gives away, the main focus will be and remain Japan and Tokyo becoming home.
